Hybrid Car
This project was all about alternate energy. Hyundai Motors sent out a challenge to find alternate energy, so we took the challenge. Most of the groups went with spring potential energy, but we wanted to be different so we went with water. When that didn't work we went along with the crowed and used rubber bands.
Content
Friction: a force in the opposite direction of motion. The friction of the axle to the car was extremely high and slowed our car.
Pressure: Amount of force per unit area. The water exerted not quite enough pressure on the water wheel to get moving. (P=F/area)
Energy: The ability to do work. The car started with Potential energy which turned into a lot of thermal and a bit of kinetic. (W=ΔKE=ΔPE)
Kinetic Energy: Energy due to motion. The goal of this project was to take a non-chemical PE and turn it into KE. (KE=1/2mv^2)
Gravitational PE: Energy due to gravitational pull and height. (PE=mgh)
Spring Constant: Measure of elasticity of a spring. (F=kx)
Elastic potential Energy: Energy due to the compression or expansion of a elastic material.
Entropy: Disorder and randomness. Energy Is lost to thermal energy and its not do the preferred task. (Total Energy=PE-KE)
Power: Rate at which is done. (P=W/t)

Reflection
For this project we
had an amazing group we all worked well together and got done what needed to
get done. We all played to our strengths and when things didn't work out quite
right we worked with we had, like the water didn't quite cut it so we gave it
major boost with the rubber bands. However, we could have managed our time
better in the beginning when we're trying to get everything together. Jenna
also played a fairly passive role, so maybe if there’s a next time I'll try to
get here to help and take part more often.
